Well...
What an Easter
And what an Easter getaway!
The boys colored eggs, of course, and then on Sunday we went to the Badlands Passion Play site where Dave did a Jesus monologue at the sunrise service. I sang as well and then we went to the Nazarene Lutheran church for breakfast. It was great. Then we gassed up the van and headed over the Rockies to Kamloops, BC. The road over the pass was not clearly marked and I had a stressful time passing semis in those short lanes going up hills... always wondering, "where's the passing lane end?" It was totally nerve-wracking. I don't like traveling fast with oncoming traffic a few feet away without a center line. Sheesh. Well, we read to the boys, we sang songs, and took a couple movies, and after a brief look at iced-over Lake Louise and sloshing through heavy rain, we arrived in Kamloops after 9 hours and then jetted off to the airport to see our good old friend Jeremy Tow who was waiting to catch a plane home! Jeremy was in Kamloops attending the memorial service of David Ross who was the artistic director at Western Theatre. Jeremy is the new artistic director, but still lives in Chemainus at this time.
We were there to see my good friend Lisa Ravensbergen star in "The Ecstasy of Rita Joe". She was fab. Her husband James also got to be there since he has the week off and so we got to see all three Ravensbergens (they have an adorable boy, Nodin.) What a strange, delightful excursion for us. A week ago we had no intention of driving over mountains and back in 3 days, but when Lisa told me she had a Monday night show, the possibility raised its head -- coupled with David's urge to get out of town and Donovan's Easter break from school... it happened. Thanks to Maki rearranging my Drama Ministry class of course.
We had a special, brief time of connection and I was honored to see Lisa in this significant show. The boys didn't seem to mind doing an egg hunt in our hotel room, and there was a pool which we had all to ourselves. We also ate at an amazing Greek restaurant and Dave and I were very happy. Donovan climbed a fun memorial tower in a park there, and Weston climbed the hills off the beaten path which was not allowed, but we can't always stop him. He's such a happy adventurer!
So, now we're back safe and tired in Rosebud and I've already put in my show at the theatre today.
Oh, my breath is not getting low enough to sustain me. We tried going faster on the end wind up but I almost hyperventilated. Scary. So, I need to center myself and do what's healthy more than obey a note to speed up too fully.
Things are sunny here in Rosebud and evidence of spring is less than in Kamloops, but it's still in the air.
The term is coming close to an end and David is gearing up for Man of La Mancha rehearsals, and I'm still trying to get a deep breath.
