We saw some amazing reptiles Monday. I never knew they were there -- in that building across from the chiropractor's in Drum. Just sitting there all along while we go about our business... there are reptiles behind glass with people spying on them and no where to run - or slither to.
I was amazed at their beauty and strangeness. The python was SO HUGE. It looked heavy too, all wrapped around itself and a tree... I wonder if he feels cursed.
My favorite one was this yellow and white one. I couldn't get over it -- so bright and cheery, for a snake! There were many more, of course, but the pictures will have to wait for my next blog.
Donovan was the first to hold (stand still like a tree) for "Brittany" the boa. Then David held her. She wasn't slimy or gross, but actually smooth and dry. I had no desire to hold her, but I did feel her skin and she didn't seem to mind. I was really proud of Donovan, too. He held still even when she licked him with her tickly tongue.
It was a fun thing to do. Something different with Mom and Dad visiting. A very "Drumheller" thing to do: seeing reptiles in the land of dinosaurs! Donovan loved being out of school for a day.
Some of the creatures were so strange... like the toads. What was God thinking? What is His pleasure? And then there were crocodiles and geckos and terribly dangerous snakes... all on display, and all a marvel. He must love variety. He's certainly not afraid of strangeness. That makes me feel better.
There is wonder in each creation because it is unique and reflective of the Creator's imagination, if not His image. Even if it is not always seen and admired. Even if it is just going about it's business in the wild. Ahh...
