May is here, I'm finally realizing. My boys are continually in the dust and dirt and racing around town on their bikes. God help them watch out for cars and cars watch out for them. They constantly have dirt on their faces and clothes and I can hardly keep up with the laundry.
Dave was a great help this morning in baking a Dutch Baby for breakfast. Weston and "Brown Bear" helped and I got to shower the gray out of my hair so I could sing in the women's choir in church with wet but clean hair. We did pretty well (the choir). We must have sung 7-8 songs. They were beautiful and there was a delicious potluck to follow with a whole whack of students, locals, and guests. We lingered long after while Donovan and Weston kept trying to persuade me that we had the keep the grasshopper they found as a pet... that the little guy needed us to take him in so he could be happy. I won.
Weston wore his new little blazer to church today. I'm such a typical mom, I had to take a picture and tell him how adorable (I mean handsome) he looked. Of course he still played in the dirt and fell off his bike and scuffed the sleeve, but hey -- he's five.
Donovan is looking a little sleepy from his parents keeping him up so late last week. Here's hoping we get back on schedule soon.
Now I am looking forward to Lewis and Royal's concert tonight and a day off! Whoopee. OK, it's not a day off from work really, but it is a day off without any scheduled appointments. The work will be chipped away at when possible, which is quite different, you see, from scheduled work. Freedom. That's what is feels like. Ahhh. And the weather is so warm... it's beckoning me out for a walk. Oh how I long to go. We'll see. Yes... warmth beckons and freedom allows work to feel like leisure. I like that.
I think I'll go do some relaxing, purposeful task... in a warm leisurely way... on this day of May.
