Today Weston and I noodled around town. First we played in the dirt piles, then we spied on the fox den, but didn't spot any kits yet, then we found our way to the burn pile where Weston scavenged some much needed scraps for a "tree house". He will inform Daddy of his next project when Daddy returns from the show.
Yesterday was soccer day (after missing for 2 weeks!) and it was good to be back on a sunny calm day. Donovan and Weston are in different age brackets, so they take turns watching and playing. Donovan has picked up some good understanding of where to be when your teammate gets the ball and he's got good determination. Really, we should practice with the boys in the week so they can develop their skills, but Dave and I both admitted it just hasn't been a priority. We're spending most of our down-time trying to maintain domestics and elbowing our way onto the computer to write.
Dave is taking Lucia's playwriting class that I took two years ago, so he's in for quite a self-revelatory journey, I'm sure.
I'm chipping away at my "I Heard the Bells" play. Thank God. It's been a challenge to find time and discipline to write, but it's happening. I'm really enjoying it. It's intimidating when I think of all the facets, but when I just begin, things always start clearing.
I've enjoyed playing with Weston today. His vocabulary amazes me. "This catapult will launch stones," he says. And: "I did not look thoroughly through the dryer for Brown Bear." Wow. I don't think I used the word "thoroughly" until I was 20.
We stopped by the opera house and watched Daddy on the screen in the lobby for a while. Weston settled down comfortably on the floor and didn't want to leave. "How 'bout if I give you a popsicle when we get home?" I bait. OK he says. Later there he is standing under the swinging door of the freezer as I put the box back. "Watch your head," I warn. He stands straight up and doesn't flinch, staring evenly at me the whole time. The door passes JUST over his hair; he smiles. "Next birthday you won't be able to do that." "Oh?" "Nope. I will have congraduated into kindergarten."
Ah yes, congraduation... it happens so fast!
