Good things just sort of happen

More on our trip to Chemainus...
We got to visit old friends and see our children playing with one another.
I was so glad that even though I was single-parenting it most of the time, I still got to enjoy some adult conversation.  Our kids did not need monitoring as much as I thought.  With Emma leading, they could play imaginary games, swing, chase, eat, run, swim and play for hours!
It's a wonder to me how little people are so unique and yet also resemble their parents.
Emma is an amazing likeness to Anita with Jeremy's focus and dedication to art.  Sebastian has Jeremy's look and particuliar fears, but also his humor and Anita's playfulness.
Hannah DuMez (Mark and Erin's oldest - same age as Donovan) is full of high spirits and confidence.  Her blond curls have relaxed into golden waves and her long body is strong and lithe.  I loved her healthy self esteem.
Michelle and Dave Lieffertz were our housemates the first year we lived in Chemainus before they moved to Vancouver and London.  Now they are back and have two beautiful twin girls Madeleine and Rebecca.  Weston got to go to kindergarten with them in Miss Sandy's class one day.  They love to torture Rebecca into huge laughter and I caught a picture of her mid-delight.
I don't have any pictures of the Matthews, but we enjoyed visiting with them as well and staying in their abode for the last three nights.  It's amazing how their kids Anna and Evan have matured into kind, intelligent adults!
I didn't quite register all the reconnecting and processing I would do on this trip when Dave and I booked it back in February while I was flying off to Cambridge.  I did know the Tow's were moving and I wanted Donovan to reconnect with his best friend Sebastian, and I knew I wanted see Doris (Anita's mom) and the island again.  But getting to see old Trinity friends in Vancouver and getting to see so many precious friends in Chemainus made it a more wonderful vacation for me as well.  I did not do any playwriting of course; I actually rarely touched a computer.  But I had no responsibilities other than connecting, helping, and experiencing- staying present.  What a good thing to do.  I wish I could say I planned it that way, but it just sort of happened.
