Summer growth...

The looked forward to day finally arrived.  We celebrated Donovan's birthday with Rosebud friends yesterday (the day after his real birthday.)
Before the party started Donovan and Weston were so excited.  They couldn't bring themselves to do anything except look out the window for the first to arrive.  Time passed.  They were distressed that no one was coming.  Inside I had to admit I got scared too.  My boys would be crushed if that were so.  No, I remembered a Mom telling me her two were coming.  Some would come, they are just casually late.  But I really felt for Donovan.  Thankfully, many started to arrive and we had a festive time.
It was sunny and warm and we had losts of strange relay games with three teams and some good wet fun.  We had watermelon slices and water balloon tosses and a pinata and chocolate cake with homemade Oreo ice cream.  There was a bit of a Pokemon theme running throughout and the kids were pretty generous with each other.  I liked that.
It's amazing watching my boys interact with their peers.  There are times where I see they really don't need us.  I appreciated the older boys who came and took leadership with the teams.  The younger kids really look up to them and do whatever they say.
After the party we scuttled the boys into the van for our opening night at the Passion Play.
They did really well.  There was a great crowd and the story came off fairly clear and the weather was perfect.
But once again, we got home and into bed late and the house is still a mess.  Having our whole family in theatre takes its toll.  But it's a wonderful privilege as well.  The audience was so touched.  And seeing my boys play tag through the temple courts after the show in their costumes was pretty cool, too.  They really do add a lot of life to the whole event.
This morning the boys totally slept in.  They were wiped out.  Dave helped make a special Dutch Baby breakfast while Donovan and Weston made dirt castles out front.  Donovan was so full of energy!  Not like his usual sleepy non-morning person self.

Dave looked at me and said, "Donovan looks older today."
He does.
