Hello world from Rosebud. Today is overcast and the ground is bare and brown with patches of white. The trees look like thorny sticks with no sign of the sap which is surely rising within them.
A LOT has happened this week.
For one thing, Donovan worked on a special art project for a showing at his school. He titled it "THE BIG CITY". It had a road, trees, a fountain, a house, a hotel, a theatre, and a museum all made out of cereal boxes. He then placed drawings of several Pokemon characters all around it. The theatre had a huge Garados roaring out of it's screen and the museum had a wonderful T-Rex skeleton you could observe through the skylight.
He worked hard on it and I was proud. It's more comforting to me to see him playing and creating than playing games on the computer.
He and his brother had fun creating Lego warriors too.
Then, Davey opened his courageous TROY WOMEN yesterday. He had some great help and creative imput from Donovan on his opening night cards. Dave is a bit weary as you can see, and as am I. Our age is showing a bit these days. But we're still grateful for the opportunities. I got to attend the show and it was a whalloper! They did great and it was awful and huge and stunning. Congrats.
This morning my boys are under their blanket fort of a couch. I snuck a picture of them by surprise with their flashlights under the covers. They're having a blast. They are Luigi and Mario today, complete with Italian dialects! So committed.
I sigh as I look at the time. A two show day. Well... my news is that I have a strange infection in my nose which makes it red and puffy AT THE TOP! Yes, over the bridge of my nose! I've suffered with this painful inflammation through many nose-blowings ever since Sunday! It is very tender and curious. I finally went in to the hospital yesterday, eventually had a doctor with a bigger nose than mine inspect it, and then give me antibiotics which are supposed to give you the runs. Great. Just what I need in a 2 1/2 hour show... to be leaving the stage. Well... they really aren't that bad, but I have to take them with food and lots of water, and then hopefully the swelling will go down. It's not really that noticeable to anyone except me (and Dave) but trying to find time to take my medicine is a challenge with my schedule. Last night I didn't take it until AFTER the show because I didn't want to run the risk, but that meant I had to eat late at night. Normally that would be a welcome excuse, but we had such a marvelous feast at the Erickson's last night, that I actually wasn't hungry! Arlene was so generous with her cooking and tending to the boys.
Anyway, I sat down with Dave around midnight, dipping my super sour whole wheat bread into vinegar and oil, chowed some feta and bubbly water, and of course a bit of chocolate... and Dave and I talked theatre. We talked and talked. His show. Mine. Like the good old days. How neat that we are both passionate about the same thing. Cool.
But now I'm tired.
Yes.
Two shows today, God help us all.
But our lives are full. And even though we can't see past the clouds today up to the sun. It's up there. It's always shining.
And there is always room for connection. Even if it means creating a fort out of your couch, or feasting at midnight with your spouse. --Grab it where you can.
