Sunny Sunday in September Sends us Sighing for Summer

We had a beautiful windy sunny day again. These super September days feel stolen from summer. It was a magical day at church, too as so many students joined us for the beginning of the term. Donovan wore his new white shirt and wanted to wear his tie. He looked so sharp, but also so grown up! So then, of course Weston wanted a tie too, and he got to borrow one of Daddy's. They rode their bikes to church and Sunday School started today for the first time in months.
My soup turned out good I'm told. I really like the soup I got to taste: Italian Garden Vegetable - it even had cheese!
After church I visited with a friend in the sanctuary while my boys ran wild and played with other kids doing whatever they liked for 40 minutes. They loved it. I finally found them INSIDE a cupboard in an upstairs classroom when it was time to go.
I love September.
There's so much energy in the air outside. I should go for more walks. Sometimes I wonder if I didn't have kids if I would get out more. I hope I would. But for now, I should be grateful for what I have and look for those moments to get anyway when I can.
Donovan and I (and Dave) are having a real struggle of wills. He seems so quick to feel unfairly treated when I am just trying to keep things balanced. Dave and I wonder over how desperately our kids seem to NEED technology (computer and movies), candy, and now: Money. Yes, Donovan is fascinated with money and we're not sure how to encourage him. He's been making 100 dollar bills (which is fine I guess) but then yesterday he REALLY needed a wallet. We were in Drum and had a bit of extra time so we did some wallet shopping. I tried to get him a little circle coin purse with a zipper and soft green leather, but no - -he had to have a man sized brown leather wallet. Thankfully it had a moose on it so it had some kid charm. I'd hate to have him grow up too fast. Weston keeps calling him "the business man!" Maybe this is how kids of arts parents rebel: they go into business! (ha!)
Actually we did have our own little family business last week with the cookies. But it does make one wonder if our lack of stress on money and technology is actually kindling a desire for it in our kids. Strange. He lost his privileges tonight so brother Weston had to snuggle into mommy and Daddy's bed to watch a short video on his own. So he worked on his cartoon writing. My he's good. I wonder if we should get him a gift a an arts tutor. I'll ask if I can share some of his drawings on my blog tomorrow. Oh yes... his finger is much better!
