I think everything about September is golden. OK, not really, but the light in the morning and the light at sunset bathes everything in such a peachy golden glow that for those two hours, creation shines at it's most brilliant. The fields have gone past blond to dark amber and the sky is ever blue and then lavender and then periwinkle.
Yesterday was our big staff/student retreat right here in Rosebud. We had childcare for the morning session, but thankfully the boys got to pal around with us during the long afternoon of team building activities.
It was blustery, dry and hot outside, but it didn't stop our RSA students from creating a unique 9 hole golf course. Some of these pics include our new Certificate students.
I was surprised the boys weren't troublesome, but kept with their team (Daddy's team) and even got to play on the team. Of course today they had to make a little mini golf course in our front dirt pile.
Then suddenly last night I got a sore throat. The "oh no I'm coming down with something" sore throat. Shoot. Weston has it too. Donovan had it the day before but didn't complain too much. But my throat feels like it's on fire!
Today after our education duties we finally got to go to Horseshoe canyon and hike a bit. Dave has been longing to take us there for weeks, ever since he got to explore in Golden in August. My it was hot! Thankfully Dave had packed us a nice back pack with water and fruit leather and we found a few strategic shady spots to rest. The boys got hot and winded a lot faster than Dave and I so we didn't push it. Oh... it was so inspiring down there; Dave and I could have stayed much longer. But I was tired too by the end. My most humbling time was right at the beginning trying to work my way down a steep crumbling path without hitting my tail. The bentonite can give way quicker than gravel and I finally had to use all fours a couple times. Thankfully once I connected with my mystified family waiting below, I didn't slow them down again. -I even got to see a jack rabbit. Oh my he was fast! Those tall ears were all I could see past the ridge and then outta sight!
We made it back home to fresh strawberry mulch popsicles and the boys cheeks were still flushed a half hour later!
Dave and I still have a lot of preparing to do for school next week and a busy day tomorrow, but it was fun to get away like. Another day of stealing back a bit of summer, especially for David who is longing for a break.
